    The Bakersfield Heat 11U baseball team went 4-0 and won the Visalia Diamond Dawgs Living the Dream MLK tournament over the weekend. The Heat beat the Clovis Bears 4-3 in the title game.     Albert Urias and Christine Bonoan of Bakersfield, representing Han's Taekwondo Academy earned spots on Team USA's Cadet World Championship Team that will compete in Baku, Azerbaijan in July. The two locals were unbeaten in the double elimination team trials last week at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

    American Kids Sports Center's Level 4 boys gymnastics team finished second in the 12th Annual West Coast Team Challenge in Bakersfield. The Jan. 10-12 competition featured 350 athletes from California and Nevada. Team members: Max Morelos, Dominic Banducci, Jack Parks, Braydon Bottoms, Isaiah Velasquez, Hudson Sheats, Sabastian Jara, Kelechi Anucha, Carson Ming, Nathan Jarvis, Lance Scott, Matthew Hall, Nolan Hernandez, Trey Letzkus, and Daniel Bartel. They are coached by Sean Farrell and Hayden Damant.

The Jan 10-12 competition featured 350 athletes from California and Nevada. Team members: Tommy Worman, Connor Dao, Nick Garcia, Zachary Tisinger, Sam Morelos, Luke Rice, Collin Stikes, Jarren Whitmore, Aidan Myers, Joshua Evangelio, Diego Lopez, Jarrett Lowe and Shane Willey. They are coached by Tom Ladman, Matt Williams, Sean Farrell and Hayden Damant.

    American Kids Sports Center's optional boys gymnastics team placed second among 20 teams at the 12th Annual West Coast Team Challenge in Bakersfield, featuring 350 athletes from California and Nevada. It was the first top-three placement since 2006 for American, which was the top scoring team on still rings, and third on floor exercise, pommel horse, parallel bars and high bar. Team members: Cooper Bishop, Marty Peterson, Luke Tomlinson, Collin Maberry, Spenser Prow, Tyler Weiner and Alex Pope. They are coached by Tom Ladman and Matt Williams.

Basketball

Bakersfield Police Activities League's basketball league registration runs through Jan. 6-24. League starts February and is for students in grades 3-8. Must show proof of grade. Visit the PAL Center (301 E. 4th St.) for a registration form or call (661) 283-8880 for information.

Bakersfield Olympias Girls and Boys Development League will be having its fall sign-ups (ages 6-8, co-ed), 2-5 p.m. Jan. 26 at Pizzaville USA, 700 Oak St., Bakersfield. Space is limited. Season is six weeks season. Games are on Saturdays, after the second week of practice. Registration fee:$65. Track and field

Central California Track and Field Coaches Clinic, for coaches, athletes and parents, is set for Feb. 22-23 at Cal State Bakersfield. Receive quality drills and skills instruction from some of California's premier coaches. Learn how to organize drills to match skill level. Clinic fee is $125 ($135 after Jan. 31 or day of clinic). $100 fee for parents who wish to participate.
