The Bakersfield Sliders 13U won the 13/14 year old age division of the Bakersfield Xtreme 1 tournament at Northwest Baseball Complex Jan. 28, beating the Bakersfield Devil Dogs 5-4 in the title game.

The Magana Soccer Academy 9U boys team placed second in the Las Vegas Cup in division 2, going 3-2. Magana lost in the finals 4-3 in overtime to the Nomads Soccer Club. Ethan Tolentino Gallegos of Han's Taekwondo Academy of Bakersfield, California for earning a World Ranking of #7 by the World Taekwondo Federation. The ranking also depicts Gallegos as the top finweight athlete in the United States (http://taekwondodata.com). Ethan will be representing the United States at the Junior World Championships in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Bakersfield Police Activities League, 301 E. 4th St., is taking registration through Feb. 10 for girls and boys, ages 5-12. Cost: $20. Proof of age required. League starts in March. Coaches and referees are needed. Call (661) 283-8880. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays.
Wrestling

Rugby
A flurry of five second-half tries lifted the Kern County Rugby Football Club to a 38-7 victory over Huntington Beach on Saturday at Emerald Cove Park.
John Oglesby scored his second try of the contest to ignite the Tuskers (2-1-1) in the 50th minute. Justin Jackson, Jeremy Ramirez, and Mark Durando all added to the Tuskers' lead over a 15-minute span, before Garrett Brown capped the scoring with a try at the 72-minute mark. Huntington Beach (2-2) posted the opening try, but Oglesby's first of the match sent the teams into the half tied a seven. The Tuskers will play at 1 p.m. Feb. 18 at Santa Barbara.
