Six Bakersfield Dragons will compete in the semi-finals of the LA Kings Youth Hockey Skills Competition. The six players qualified in a preliminary round that was held Friday at the San Joaquin Community Hospital Ice Center of Bakersfield.
All players competed in an agility race, a test of passing accuracy, and a contest to see who had the fastest shot. The top two competitors in each age range move on to the semi-finals.
Adam Hulsey and Michael Lopez were the top two in the 14 and under division. Both players said they signed up for the contest with one goal in mind.
“To have fun,” Hulsey said. “I thought it was really fun to able to go out with our friends and compete against each other.”
“It was pretty fun to test your skills,” Lopez explained. “I’m glad I won for my family. I want to show them how grateful I am for all they do when they take me to all my hockey practices and games.”
The Dragons’ players moving on to the next round are as follows: Gavin Mears and Landon McCoy in the 8 & under division; Landon Riley and Jagger Fair in the 10 & under division; and Adam Hulsey and Michael Lopez in the 14 & under division.
The semi-finals will be held at the Toyota Center in March. The final round will be held at the Staples Center during a Kings’ game.
