    American Cheer Flyers recently competed at the 2014 Cheerleading World Championships in Orlando, Fla. The Medium Co-ed Level 5 team made Top 10 on the first day, placing seventh out of 32 teams and qualifying for finals. The Flyers took fourth place overall on the second day, and received a perfect pyramid score.

Bakersfield Jam Spring Camp, led by assistant coach George Galanopoulos May 3-4 and May 17-18, for boys and girls grades 1-12), at the Dignity Health Event Center, 1400 Norris Rd. First-come, first-serve. Camp is limited to 30 campers per session. For more information and registration, emil: or


The Kern Athletic Fencing Foundation offers beginning fencing classes at 6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. At 7 p.m. Tuesdays there is an advanced class. All classes can be started at any time and they are held at the NOR Community Center on Norris and Fruitvale. For more information, call Lucas (661) 319-2235. Classes are open to children and adults and equipment is available for use.


Bustos Elite 16U travel team open tryouts at 1 p.m. Saturday (May 3) at Stockdale High. All positions are open. Players must be willing to travel to compete at a high level. Former NCAA All-Americans Nathan Morgan (from Bakersfield High, Oklahoma State) and Joe Gonzales (CSUB) will be among instructors with BC coach and camp director Bill Kalivas, and BC wrestlers.
