CSUB roundup: Women's swim team sets 2 school records

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- CSU Bakersfield opened the WAC Women's Swimming Championships by breaking a pair of school records.
The 200 medley relay of Jeanette Dove, Jodi Hanson, Nicolette Goncalves and Lauren Kaufman lowered the school mark to 1:43.42 as the team finished seventh. The old record of 1:44.86 was set during the 2010-11 season.
"To break a record in the first event was a great way to start the meet," said CSUB director of swimming Chris Hansen. "We didn't just break it, we broke by over a second."
The 800 free relay of Michaela Paige, Ali Gillespie , Kelsey Lange and Delise Batiza broke their own school mark by almost 7 seconds (7:27.58) to finish sixth. CSUB sits in eighth (50) in the team race. Northern Arizona (118) leads the team competition.
Women lose to Utah Valley in basketball
OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley withstood a furious late rally by Cal State Bakersfield and held on for a 72-69 women's basketball victory.
The Roadrunners (11-17) led 34-31 at halftime.
CSUB' Dajy Vines and Batabe Zempare picked up their fourth fouls apiece in the first five minutes of the second half. Then the Wolverines (13-14) went on a 14-2 run.
Ciarra Ford led the Roadrunners with 18 points and eight assists. Janae Coffee scored 17, grabbed six rebounds and blocked four shots. Tyonna Outland had 14 points and six rebounds.
A Coffee bucket made it 67-66 at the 1:13 mark, but the Roadrunners could get no closer.
CSUB concludes the 2012-13 season Saturday at noon when the Roadrunners host the University of New Orleans.
