Local report: Roadrunner women win 8th straight

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- All five Cal State Bakersfield starters scored in double figures Monday as the Roadrunner women's basketball team beat New Orleans 78-59 for their eighth straight victory.

Janae Coffee led CSUB (10-15) with 18 rebounds, a team record for Div. I, and also scored 14 points.

Amber Williams surpassed the 1,500 career point plateau with a Roadrunner high 16 points. Dajy Vines posted 15 points, and Tyonna Outland and Ciarra Ford added 10 apiece.

The game was tied 29-29 at halftime. CSUB broke it open with a 15-5 run in the second half.

The Roadrunners shot 50 percent (17-of-34) in the second half while allowing the Lady Privateers (2-19) just eight field goals. CSUB outrebounded New Orleans 52-34 and scored 24 points off 16 turnovers.

CSUB hosts Chicago State at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Jam wins 4th straight

Jerel McNeal scored 16 of his game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Bakersfield Jam to a 104-93 victory over the Erie Bayhawks.

The game was tied 16 times and featured 23 lead changes

The teams were tied at 90 when McNeal took over, scoring 12 of the team's final 14 points to help Bakersfield (21-9) win its fourth straight. He shot 60 percent from the field (12-20) for the game and added three assists and three steals.

McNeal has scored 20 or more points in six straight games.

Brian Butch added 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, Adam Koch had 11 points and 10 rebounds, Renaldo Major had 18 points and Chris Cooper went 5-for-5 from the field and finished with 10 points for Bakersfield. D.J. Kennedy scored 21 points for Erie (17-14).

Liberty grad Tittl in SCIAC diving finals

University of La Verne diver Jacob Tittl, a 2010 Liberty High graduate, placed second in the 1 meter diving event with a cumulative score of 389.6, and was fourth in the 3-meter competition (315.05) over the weekend in the preliminary rounds of the 2013 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships at the Rose Bowl Aquatics Center in Pasadena. Tittl's finishes qualified him for the SCIAC Championships this weekend in La Mirada.

BC golfers place 5th

SANTA CLARITA -- Neil Bautista led Bakersfield College golfers with a 4-over 76 to finish in a tie for fourth in the Western State Conference men's tourney at Valencia Country Club.

BC's Travis Millwee shot 77 and the Renegades finished fifth as a team on a day where wid gusts reached 30 mph. College of the Canyons won the event with a team score of 376, 25 strokes ahead of BC. BC next plays Monday in a WSC tournament at the Alisal Ranch course in in Solvang.
