Local report: Huxhold, Wickensheimer set CSUB swim records

MONTEREY PARK -- Mitchell Huxhold and Dan Wickensheimer reset school records to highlight Cal State Bakersfield's Day 3 three performances at the MPSF Championships.
Huxhold broke his second school record in as many days as he finished the 200 freestyle in 1 minute, 37.25 seconds to break Jim Hassett's 1992 school mark of 1:37.47. Huxhold placed second in the preliminaries, his time making the NCAA B cut. In the finals, Huxhold placed third.
Wickensheimer lowered his own year-old school record in the 100 butterfly to :47.78 (from 48.12) during the prelims, earning an NCAA B cut time in the event. In the finals, Wickensheimer placed fifth in 47.91.
CSUB's Alex Daneke posted the third fastest 200 freestyle time in school history, 1:37.50, to make the NCAA B cut during the prelim. He placed eighth in the finals.
CSUB's 400 medley relay of Will Tyrrell, Brett Emery, Jordan Singleton and Fran Cverle were eighth in 3:23.33.
Troy Neklason was 13th in the 1-mete diving competition (271.5) which was held at the Air Force Academy at colorado Springs, Colo.
Emery scored in the 100 breaststroke by finishing 14th (:56:72).
"Our 200 free was on fire today," CSUB director of swimming Chris Hansen said. "Watching Dan Wickensheimer shatter his own school record with a time of 47.78 was really special for me. He has dedicated himself to this team for four years. This was a big time swim and he deserved every minute of it. We are in a fight with Hawaii and Denver, our divers and younger swimmers need to show up to play tomorrow in order for us to finish in the top five."
CSUB is in fifth (234.5), eight ahead of Hawaii for the spot. BYU (417) leads the team race.
BC tops Canyons 13-0, improves to 9-2
Freshman Kyle Nixon went 4-for-6 with a triple and four RBIs to lead Bakersfield College to a 13-0 victory over College of the Canyons in Friday's Western State Conference South baseball game at Gerry Collis Field.
The game was originally schedueled for Tuesday, but was rained out and moved to Friday.
The Renegades (9-2, 2-1) pounded out 19 hits, building a 7-0 lead after three innings, all in support of right-hander Brad Lindsley (2-1).
Lindsley scattered six hits in seven innings, striking out three and walking one. Canyons dropped to 4-6, 1-2.
Justin Martinez, who was 2-for-4, got things started with his second home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field in the first.
BC added two in the second, three in the third and then five more in the sixth.
Luc Pomales was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Cole Hallum, Erik Williams and Rolando Martinez added two hits apiece for the 'Gades, who play at L.A. Valley today at 1 p.m.
Golfer Patel misses cut
Bakersfield golfer Bhavik Patel shot a 5-over-par 75 missed the cut on his first professional golf tournament, the Web.com Tour's Panama Claro Championship in Panama City, Panama.
Patel, who shot a 1-under-par 69 in the first round Thursday, totaled 144 in two rounds, missing the cut by two strokes.
Dae Hyun Kim of South Korea, shot a 2-under 68 and leads the field with a 133 after two rounds.
The next event on the tour is the Colombia Championship starting Thursday in Bogota, Colombia.
