LOCAL REPORT: CSUB softball closes season with loss in WAC tournament

SEATTLE -- Cal State Bakersfield's softball season ended Friday with a 2-1 loss to Seattle University at the Western Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Roadrunners finish 15-40. They went 0-2 in the double-elimination WAC Tournament.

On Friday, Seattle's Bubba Morrow and Lisa Maulden hit solo home runs against CSUB starter Kelsie Monroe.

CSUB scored in the second Jessica Castaneda led off with a double and pinch runner Amber Mills eventually scored when she beat the throw to the plate on Ashley Carter's fielder's choice ground ball.

The Roadrunners were held to five hits by Seattle pitcher Richelle Ashburn. CSUB had only three baserunners over the final five innings.

NBA D-League

Markeith Cummings, Terrel Harris and Dennis Horner from the Bakersfield Jam were selected to participate in the NBA D-League's fifth-annual Elite Mini Camp in Chicago, Monday and Tuesday.

The camp features top 2013-14 NBA D-League prospects and gives players an opportunity to display their skills and be evaluated by NBA team personnel in advance of NBA Summer Leagues and 2014 training camps.

Cummings (6-6, 240, Kennesaw State University) was drafted in the third round of the 2013 NBA D-League Draft by the Bakersfield Jam. He played in 28 games and averaged 6.2 points and 1.6 rebounds.

Harris (6-5, 190, Oklahoma State) was acquired in a trade with the Texas Legends on February 20. Harris appeared in 18 games (all starts) for the Jam and posted averages of 13.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 steals.

Horner (6-9, 230, North Carolina State) was also acquired in a trade with the Texas Legends on February 20. He appeared in 18 games (all starts) and tallied 12.6 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest.

Cal League

Jesse Darrah tossed seven scoreless innings, limiting Bakersfield to three hits, to lead the Visalia Rawhide to a 3-0 victory over the Blaze on Friday at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Darrah walked three and struck out seven to improve to 3-0.

Marquez Smith had two singles and Jesse Winker singled in in the first to account for Bakersfield's offense.

James Allen (2-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on eight hits in 6-1/3 innings. He struck out three and walked one.
