RUSTON, La. -- Cal State Bakersfield senior left-hander Jeff McKenzie ran his record to 10-1 with his fourth shutout as the Roadrunners beat last-place Louisiana Tech 2-0 Friday night in a Western Athletic Conference game.
McKenzie tossed a three-hitter with one walk and five strikeouts. Louisiana Tech had only one baserunner reach second base and McKenzie pitched to only four batters over the minimum.
McKenzie, who extended his CSUB single-season record for wins, did not allow more than one baserunner in any inning and retired Louisiana Tech in order five times.
The win was the 30th of the season for the Roadrunners, the second time in their five-season history they've reached that milestone.
The victory kept CSUB (30-17, 13-6 WAC) in a first-place tie in the WAC with Texas-Arlington, which beat Dallas Baptist 6-1 on Friday. Eight WAC regular-season games remain.
CSUB scored in the first on Mylz Jones' RBI double, which scored Tyler Shryock. Shryock had the other CSUB RBI, a single in the fifth that scored Oscar Sanay.
Shryock and Cael Brockmeyer had two hits apiece to lead CSUB's six-hit attack.
The series continues today with a 1 p.m. game and concludes Sunday with an 11 a.m. game.
