Cal State Bakersfield scored first, but Western Athletic Conference leader Seattle's top scorer Miguel Gonzalez got in the last word Sunday at the Roadrunners' Main Soccer Field.

Gonzalez, the WAC's leader in goals, posted his 12th of the season for the gamewinner when he forced a 'Runner turnover, took a long run, and his shot went into the low left of the Bakersfield net in the 82nd minute.

Seattle improved to 4-0-1 in the WAC and 5-8-2 overall.

CSUB's Hugo Vinales broke a scoreless tie in the 33rd minute when he scored off a crossing pass by Jonathan Colunga.

The Roadrunners protected their lead until the Redhawks' Ian Hines-Ike connected on a direct kick following a Roadrunner yellow card in the 73rd minute.

"We started off quite poorly," CSUB coach Simon Tobin said. "Four of our five attacking players in the last 20 minutes of the first half were all freshman and they changed the game. They gave us a spark and I was quite pleased with the young players. I'm obviously disappointed with the result. I felt that we gave them their two goals rather than make them work for it so that's always disappointing. We have to make sure we eliminate our personal mistakes."

The Roadrunners (4-7-2, 2-2-1 WAC) host Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. Friday.

At Seattle, the WAC's first-place Redhawks women's team erased a one-goal deficit en route to a 2-1 win over the Roadrunners at Championship Field.

Five minutes into the second half, CSUB's Hedda Regefalk scored from close range off an assist by Megan Todd to break a scoreless tie. It was third goal of the season.

Seattle's Jacqui Walls tied it at 70:30 on a goal, with Mary Hill providing a crossing pass. Heather Thomas scored the gamewinner after a pair of one-touch passes from Stephanie Verdoia and Kiana Kraft.

The Redhawks outshot the 'Runners 17-2 (7-2 on goal). Seattle U had five corner kick compared to zero for the Roadrunners.

The Roadrunners host Grand Canyon at noon Sunday on the Main Soccer Field.
