Local report: Two CSUB athletes place fourth

HUMBLE, Texas -- David Charleston and Brandon Washington each had fourth-place finishes Friday for Cal State Bakersfield's men at the Great West Conference Track and Field Championships at Houston Baptist University.
Charleston was fourth in the high jump with a mark of 6 feet, 23â4 inches. Washington was fourth in the long jump at 21-91â2. Charleston was ninth in the long jump (20-31â2).
In the men's shot put, CSUB's Collin Ellis was ninth (45-111â4) and Bryan Wilmert was 12th (44-1â2).
In the women's 1,500-meter preliminaries, CSUB's Melisa Cruz was seventh of nine runners in her heat with a 4:47.72. Monica Guzman was ninth out of nine in her heat (5:21.76).
The meet concludes today.
66ers rally past Blaze
SAN BERNARDINO -- The Inland Empire 66ers rallied from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Bakersfield Blaze 4-3 on Friday night at San Manuel Stadium.
Donald Lutz led the Blaze, going 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Lay Batista allowed three runs (two earned) and three hits over seven innings for Inland Empire. Blaze starter Josh Smith allowed two runs over five innings.
The Blaze took a 3-0 lead with runs in each of the first three innings. Inland Empire rallied with two in the fourth and seventh.
