SEATTLE -- Seattle snapped Cal State Bakersfield's six-game winning streak Saturday with a 74-67 victory in women's basketball.
Seattle used an 18-2 run late in the first half to head into the break with 35-25 lead.
The Redhawks led by 18 with 6:10 to go before the 'Runners mounted a charge to cut the lead to 68-64 with one minute to play.
But Seattle's Kacie Sowell followed with a basket, and after a CSUB turnover, the Redhawks sank four free throws in the final 36 seconds to secure the victory.
Tyonna Outland led all scorers with 25 points. Batabe Zempare tallied her seventh double-double of the year, scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. Brooklynn Hinkens had 13 off the bench for the 'Runners.
Sowell led five Seattle players in double figures with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Sylvia Shepard added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Roadrunners host Kansas City at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Icardo Center.
FRESNO -- CSUB opened day two of the Fresno State Kickoff Classic with losses to Sacramento State and UC Santa Barbara.
The Roadrunners lost to Sacramento State 11-6 and UC Santa Barbara 6-0.
The 'Runners got off to a rough start with three errors in the top of the second inning leading to five runs for the Hornets.
Karissa Veiga, Kayli Shaw and Amy Ricciardi all recorded multiple hits in game one for Bakersfield.
Against the Gauchos, Ricciardi continued her strong day, adding two more hits to bring her total on the day to four hits and two RBI. Veiga ended the day going 4-for-7 with an RBI and two runs scored.
CSUB will finish play in Fresno with a game against the host Bulldogs today at 1:30 p.m.
DAVIS -- The Cal State Bakersfield water polo team split two matches at the UC Davis Tournament, losing to 12th-ranked San Jose State 10-7 and beating Sonoma State 7-3.
Courtney Wahlstrom had 15 saves at goal vs. San Jose St. and a season-high 18 saves vs. Sonoma, the fourth-most in a match in CSUB's history. Paige Tsuruda and Tancy Aldrige had two goals each for CSUB vs. Sonoma. Kristen Jensen had three steals, drew two ejections, had two assists and scored a goal vs. San Jose.
