Local report: CSUB's Goodvin falls in Spring Invite playoff; Roadrunners take 2nd

Cal State Bakersfield golfer Chase Goodvin tied for first, then lost on the second playoff hole Tuesday to Sonoma State's Eric Ash at the CSUB Spring Invitational.

Ash and Goodvin tied at 216 over the regulation 54 holes at Bakersfield Country Club. They both birdied the first playoff hole, but Ash eagled the second hole to earn the medalist honors.

In the team race, Sonoma overcame an eight-shot Roadrunner lead to finish first among five teams. The Seawolves shot 293 in the final round to finish with a 54-hole score of 882. CSUB shot 311 on Tuesday to recorded an 892 over the 54 holes.

Other CSUB three-round totals: Daniel Richardson (226, 8th), Matt Hammons (228, T10), Patrick Bell (229, T12), Dylan Lym (236, 17th) and Matthew Deford (237, 19th).

The Roadrunner women's golf team finished fifth among five teams at the Spring Invitational on the same course.

Malea Miller shot her best round of the tournament, 78, to lead the Roadrunners.

She tied for 12th individually.

The Roadrunners shot 324 over the final 18 for a 54-hole total of 1,001.

Cal State State Northridge (916) won the team championship.

Northridge's Elisabeth Haavardsho, who recorded a course-record 67 on Monday, was low-medalist with a 3-under-par 219 (74-67-78).

Other CSUB scores: Jordanne Barr (249, T17), Lauren Holbrook (252, T19), Micah Lopez and Michelle Martel (255, T22) and Lexi Keeter (276, 26th).

JC baseball

VISALIA -- Bakersfield College, ranked fourth in Southern California, lost its third straight game, 8-7, to the host team in the College of the Sequoias tournament.

The Giants (3-2) scored the winning run in the eighth after the Renegades (17-7) had tied it with a run in the top half of the inning.

Erik Williams was 2-for-5, including a two-run home run, and 3 RBIs, Kyle Nixon was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and Blayne Ontiveros finished 2-for-4 for Bakersfield.

BC continues tournament play at 1 p.m. today at Reedley.

BC wins in softball

SANTA MONICA-- Kassidi Ward hit a grand slam during an eight-run fourth inning to lead Bakersfield College to a 14-4 victory at Santa Monica College.

C.J. Sagasta added a two-run homer in the fourth for BC.

The Renegades (3-19) will travel to Citrus College for a double-header on Thursday.

NBA D-League

The Toronto Raptors announced rookie forward Quincy Acy has been recalled from the Bakersfield Jam.

Acy was reassigned to the Jam on March 4. He appeared in 10 games, averaging 13.1 points, 8.6 rebounds and 30.4 minutes.
