Local report: Canyons knocks BC baseball team out of first place

VALENCIA -- College of the Canyons won its eighth straight game and knocked Bakersfield College out of a first-place tie in the Western State Conference South Division with a 10-5 baseball win Thursday afternoon.
Alex Bishop went 3-for-5 with a double, his first home run of the season and four RBIs for Canyons (13-9 overall, 9-4 WSC).
BC fell to 17-5 overall and 10-3 in the WSC. Glendale, a 6-2 winner over L.A. Valley, is now alone in first place with an 11-2 record in the WSC.
"We didn't pitch very well," BC coach Tim Painton said. "And then we had two costly errors late in the game that blew it open."
Cole Hallum went 2-for-4 with a double and run scored for the Renegades.
BC plays host to Canyons today at 3 p.m.
Jam falls to Legends
Justin Dentmon had 25 points, six rebounds and six assists and Melvin Ely totaled 21 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots to lead the Texas Legends to a 99-88 victory over the Jam in an NBA D-League game. Texas ended Bakersfield's five-game win streak.
Damion James (25 points) and Jerel McNeal (20) were the scoring leaders for the Jam (30-13), which has already clinched a playoff berth. James had 10 rebounds. Quincy Acy (16 points, 12 rebounds) and Brian Butch (11 points, 11 rebounds) also played well for Bakersfield.
NBA veteran Delonte West added 13 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals for Texas (19-25).
