Local report: BC women roll past Citrus

The Bakersfield College women's basketball team outscored Citrus College 30-10 in the second half Wednesday en route to a 48-30 Western State-South Division victory at the Gil Bishop Sports Center.
Brittany Smith had a game-high 15 points and 9 rebounds for BC (11-9, 4-1 WSC), which improved to 4-1 in its last five games.
MacKenzie Odle and Giselle Flores grabbed 10 rebounds each for BC, which outrebounded the Owls 50-37.
Citrus men top BC
The BC men blew an 11-point halftime lead in a 70-61 home loss to Citrus.
BC out-shot Citrus (44-percent to 37-percent) from the field. But the Owls were 22-of-32 from the line, and the Renegades 9-of-16.
Conroy Lester had 12 points and 8 rebounds and R'mand Harp added 9 points and 6 rebounds for (BC 8-10, 2-2 WSC). Brent Watkins led the way for Citrus (10-7, 3-1 WSC) with 23 points and 9 rebounds.
BC's Sarabia gives verbal to Texas State
Brandon Sarabia, the sophomore right guard on Bakersfield College's state championship football team last fall, has given a verbal commitment to Texas State, BC coach Jeff Chudy said.
Sarabia, a Garces High graduate, can sign a letter of intent on Feb. 6.
Sarabia was selected to the All-National Divison Northern Conference first team by league coaches.
BC finished 11-2 and won the first state football title in the program's history when it beat City College of San Francisco 35-14 on Dec. 8.
Texas State, a member of the Western Athletic Conference last season, went 4-8, including 2-4 in the WAC. The Bobcats will move to the Sun Belt Conference next season.'
Jam wins 3rd straight
Damion James scored 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting, and added nine rebounds to help the Bakersfield Jam beat the Los Angeles D-Fenders 107-101 for its third straight win.
Jerel McNeal added 20 points, and center Brian Butch had 12 rebounds for Bakersfield (16-7), which built a 58-46 lead by halftime. Elijah Millsap scored 25 for Los Angeles (7-14).
