Local report: CSUB's Hammond finishes 7th at Midlands

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Bryce Hammond finished seventh Sunday at 174 pounds for Cal State Bakersfield at the 50th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships.
Hammond opened the wrestlebacks by defeating Iowa State's Tanner Weatherman 9-7. In the consolation semifinals, Hammond, the seventh seed, dropped a 4-3 decision to the sixth seed, John-Martin Cannon of the University of Buffalo. Hammond won by forfeit over Craig Kelliher of Central Michigan for seventh.
CSUB's Miguel Comparan lost his first match at 125 pounds before winning his next three in the consolation bracket. He lost to the seventh seed, North Carolina's Nathan Kraisser 6-0.
CSUB tied for 22nd with Kent State (26). Illinois (99.5) won the team title.
Jam wins in OT; Major sets scoring record
On a night when the Jam's Renaldo Major became the all-time leading scorer in NBA D-League history (3,812 points), Bakersfield outlasted the Rio Grande Vipers, 106-104 in overtime.
The Jam's Damion James led the way with a game-high 27 points to go along with 11 rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
Shan Foster scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds off the bench for the Jam while Jerel McNeal posted 17 points and a game-high seven assists.
Major scored eight points, but came up huge with a spectacular play with 6 seconds left in OT when he blocked Terrence Jones' shot as time expired.
Jones led the Vipers with 24 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
BC men top Fresno for third in tourney
SANTA MARIA -- Van Holloway had 14 points and Ar'mand Harp added 10 to lead Bakersfield College to a 65-54 victory over Fresno City College in the third-place game at the Allan Hancock Tournament.
Conroy Lester had nine points and was named to the all-tournament team for the Renegades (6-8).
