Local report: Freshmen lead Renegades cross country in Fresno

A freshman-dominated Bakersfield College cross country squad improved on its times from last week, according to coach Pam Kelley, highlighting Saturday's Fresno Invitational at Woodward Park.
Moriah Millwee placed 38th in 20 minutes, 45 seconds to help the BC women finish 10th out of 20 teams.
Orieth Rodriguez (58th, 21:20), Maleeya Hermosilla (77th, 22:08), Tejera Dial (80th, 22:15) and Shelby Trevino (87th, 22:25) rounded out the top five on the 5-kilometer course for the Renegades.
Misael Herrera had the fastest time for the Renegades on the 4-mile men's course, finishing 85th in 23:18. Davis Loustalot (118th, 23:59), Robbie Davalos (120th, 24:03), Tri Hobson (133rd, 24:24) and Michael Shaffer (135th, 24:28) scored for the BC men, who finished 17th.
CSUB volleyball
RENO, Nev. -- Junior Fernanda Goncalves has a double-double with 40 assists and 10 digs as the Cal State Bakersfield women's volleyball team defeated Nevada 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 26-24) at the Wolf Pack Invitational.
The Roadrunners (2-4) lost earlier in the day to Washington State, 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-14).
JC volleyball
GROSSMONT-- Bakersfield College went 2-0 at the Grossmont tournament, defeating San Diego Mesa (25-23, 25-20, 25-20) and host Grossmont College (25-14, 25-21, 25-22).
Caitlin Bernardin led the Renegades with 31 kills on the day. Other leaders included Samantha Whittington with 61 assists and six aces, and Monica Barksdale with 41 digs. Bakersfield will travel to the San Diego Mesa Tournament next weekend.
Taft College won the consolation championship at the Delta College Tournament in Stockton, defeating host San Joaquin Delta (25-15, 25-15, 25-10) and Butte College (25-21, 21-25, 25-11, 25-16).
Chanel Cantere finished with 37 kills and 52 digs for the Cougars and Tiffane Matusaga added 18 kills and 35 digs. Taft will travel to American River College on Wednesday.
