AUSTIN, Texas -- Cal State Bakersfield junior Mitchell Huxhold placed 16th Thursday night in the men's 500-yard freestyle at the NCAA Division I Swimming Championships.
Huxhold clocked 4:18.61 after going a CSUB-record 4:16.71 to place 15th during the morning session.
Huxhold, CSUB's first swimmer to compete in the D-I nationals, is entered in the 200-yard freestyle today and will compete Saturday in his best event, the 1,650-yard freestyle.
BC baseball beaten
GLENDORA -- Citrus College won its fourth straight baseball game, 5-4 over Bakersfield College.
BC (8-15 overall, 4-7 Western State Conference South Division) had a three-run home run by catcher Junior Felix in the top of the seventh inning.
Cole Hallum had a double and single and Austin Tijerina singled twice.
Taft wins 5th straight
TAFT -- Taft College starting pitcher Kevin Little scattered seven hits, walked one and allowed one unearned run over 7-1/3 innings as the Cougars downed Reedley 4-1 in a Central Valley Conference baseball game.
Taft (10-13, 6-8 CVC) has won five straight.
Loren Cutolo had three singles and scored twice for Taft. Roman Testani, Chris Hopballe and Bryan Nunez added two hits each.
BC wins on late HR
Alex Avila hit a two-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Bakersfield College a 7-4 softball win over Glendale College at BC.
Winning pitcher Brooke Guiddam and Marisela Gonzales singled with two outs before Avila hit her first homer of the season.
Gonzales and Maddie Arambula each had three singles in four at-bats for BC (9-18 overall, 4-6 Western State Conference Blue Division).
