Roadrunner men land spring soccer match against UCLA

A match against 2011 College Cup participant UCLA highlights this spring's men's soccer games for CSU Bakersfield.

The Roadrunners, who earned CSUB's first NCAA Division I Tournament berth for a team sport last fall, will host UCLA at 7 p.m. April 21, one of three home games in the five-game spring season.

Other home games, both with 7 p.m. starts, are April 7 vs. Cal State Fullerton and May 1 vs. the Ventura County Fusion. The Fusion play in the USL Premier Develope League, the fourth tier of the American Soccer Pyramid.

UCLA reached the NCAA Tournament semfinals, losing to top-seeded and eventual champion North Carolina 2-2 (3-1 penalty kicks).

The Bruins went 18-4-2 last season and CSUB was 12-4-5.

JC tennis: BC men lose to Fresno

FRESNO -- Fresno City College swept all singles matches in straight sets en route to a season-opening 8-0 men's tennis victory over Bakersfield College on.

The BC women also played at Fresno CC and lost 7-2.

Earning BC's points were Janelle Fivecoat at No. 6 singles, a 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 comeback win over Meghan Woods, and the No. 3 doubles team of Kim Butler and Morgan Frazier, who won 8-6.

CSUB women lose in tennis

RIVERSIDE -- CSU Bakersfield felt to 0-3 in women's tennis after losing 6-1 at UC Riverside (1-1).

CSUB's only point came at No. 5 singles when Julian Mannix beat Kate Bergeson 6-3, 6-3. Mannix and Nancy Ramirez, playing No. 3 doubles, also won, 9-7, but Riversde got the doubles team point by winning the other two doubles matches.

BC football signings

Bakersfield College sophomore linebackers Will Harvey and Ian Driscoll, who both graduated from Frontier High School, will continue their football careers at Colorado Mesa University.

Another BC player, offensive lineman Garrett Galanski, a Ridgeview High graduate, will play football for Ottawa University, Kan.

NBA D-League: Jam falls to Erie

Four players scored 20 or more points to lead the Erie Bayhawks to a 116-105 victory over the Jam. Keith McCleod had 24 points, D.J. Kennedy and Tirrell Baines had 22 apiece and Kyle Spain added 20 to lead Erie (13-13). Jeremy Wise led the Jam (13-12) with 19 points and Osiris Eldridge added 18 for Bakersfield, while Derrick Byars and Renaldo Major added 16 apiece.
