WALNUT -- Stockdale senior Blake Haney finished sixth in the prestigious boys individual sweepstakes race at the Mt. SAC Invitational on Saturday, the first time he's been defeated in 2013.
Haney, ranked the No. 1 high school cross country runner in the nation by multiple running websites, ran the 5-kilometer race in 15:01, similar to his time in winning the Clovis Invitational two weeks ago. But it was well off the pace set by Torrey Pines senior Tal Braude, who won the race in 14:27, just three seconds off the course record.

ALPAUGH -- Matthew Zobel was a busy man Friday night, accounting for six total touchdowns to lead Northwest Christian (5-3, 2-1 Central Sierra 8-man league) to a 70-20 victory over Alpaugh.
Zobel finished with three rushing touchdowns, two receiving touchdowns and a 74-yard kickoff return for a score.
Guardian linebackers Aaron Phillips and Brett Finney combined for 31 tackles.
SAN LUIS OBISPO -- Bakersfield College finished sixth out of 18 teams at the Meathead Movers Tournament at Cuesta College. Jawayne Sambrough (149 pounds) finished second and Max Ramirez was fourth. Dillon Herroun placed fifth at 157 pounds and Josh Davis finished was fourth at heavyweight.
CSUB rallied from a poor start to defeat Idaho in four games in the Icardo Center.
Debora Araujo had 22 kills and 11 digs, and Fernanda Goncalves added 50 assists and 13 digs for the Roadrunners (15-9).
