Moorpark College had many more first downs, a comfortable edge in total yardage and a nearly 2-to-1 edge in time of possession.

BC had one huge advantage: 24 points off Moorpark turnovers.

That was the difference as the Renegades raced to a three-touchdown lead in the first quarter and coasted to a 37-14 National Northern Conference victory at Memorial Stadium.

"Our main philosophy was to get off the ball, get off the blocks, get sacks and get fumbles," sophomore middle linebacker Grant Campbell said. "We're playing way better now."

It was the highest scoring game by the Renegades (3-4 overall, 1-2 NNC) this season, topping their previous high two weeks earlier in a 28-0 win over El Camino.

There were other season milestones. Prior to Saturday, BC had only six sacks and one fumble recovery all season.

The Renegades sacked Moorpark quarterback Nick Davis six times and recovered two fumbles.

BC cornerback Cody Jones opened the scoring with a 40-yard interception return for a touchdown on the 10th play of the game and Campbell concluded BC's scoring with a 32-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the third quarter.

"We came out on fire and made some things happen right off the bat," BC coach Jeff Chudy said.

"We were playing faster," Chudy added. "When you play fast good things happen. Guys were flying to the ball and putting good pressure on the quarterback."

BC defensive lineman Jacob Miller had three sacks and twice he forced fumbles that the Renegades recovered. Campbell's touchdown followed one of those.

Linebacker Garrett Brown had his first two sacks of the season and assisted on another.

"We were just going out hard," Miller said. "The other guys pushed him out and I got the sacks."

"Our guys came off the edge real well," Chudy said. "Brown and Miller did a nice job. Their tackles had trouble blocking them."

BC wide receiver Brock Martin caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Cruise Adams to make it 14-0 with 9:09 left in the first quarter. The Raiders (4-4, 1-3 NNC) had punted from the back of their end zone after going 3-and-out following BC's first score.

Martin was wide open as Adams had a play action and looked away that drew the defensive back off Martin.

"We big-played them early," Chudy said. "That was an electrifying, big-time win."

Preston Hodges gave BC a 20-0 first-quarter lead with a 1-yard TD run that capped an 80-yard drive that followed Jones' second interception.

BC wide receiver Colin Spencer caught a 16-yard TD pass from Adams with 7:11 left in the third quarter when he outjumped a Raider defensive back to make the play in the end zone. That score was set up by a 74-yard run by Kwame Johnson.

Moorpark scored in the second quarter on Davis' 1-yard run, capping an 80-yard, 20-play drive that ate 8:29 off the clock. The Raiders didn't score again until the fourth quarter, a 1-yard Kyle Jean run that capped a 15-play, 80-yard drive.

Aside from the 74-yard Johnson run, Moorpark did an excellent job defending BC's ground game. The Renegades had 163 net rushing yards and Hodges, who entered the game with 605, finished with only 56 yards on 14 carries. Johnson had 114 on 13 attempts.

Davis took advantage of BC defensive backs playing well off Moorpark receivers for much of the game. He completed 27-of-38 for 224 yards, mainly short passes. No Raiders' reception gained more than 19 yards.

"It was good to get this one," Chudy said. "We'll enjoy this one tonight and hopefully get to .500 next week (at Cerritos)."
