Local report: BC routs Hancock in volleyball

Bakersfield College swept Allan Hancock, 25-4, 25-21, 25-19, in volleyball Wednesday at the BC gym.

Edithza Urias has 10 kills for BC (5-4 overall), the 11th-ranked team in the state.

Jessie Trail added five kills and three service aces, and Kenadie Lee-McNeil had 17 set assists and three aces.

BC next plays at the L.A. Pierce tournament Friday.

CSUB adds exhibition in men's basketball

Cal State Bakersfield has finalized its men's basketball schedule for this season, adding a home exhibition game vs. Occidental College on Nov. 2 and adding a road game at Texas-San Antonio on Dec. 18.

The Occidental exhibition will begin at 7 p.m. in the Icardo Center, giving CSUB 14 home games this season. Seven will be in the Icardo Center and seven will be at Rabobank Arena.

CSUB has joined the Western Athletic Conference this season. The Roadrunners' first WAC game is Jan. 4 vs. Utah Valley at Rabobank Arena.

Taft sweeps Columbia

TAFT -- Taft College opened Central Valley Conference volleyball play with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-13 win over Columbia College.

Tiffane Mapusaga had 11 kills and Risha Alaiasa, Mae Hopeau and Chelsea Wong added eight kills each for Taft (7-2 overall, 1-0 CVC). Mapusaga and Wong had seven digs apiece. Columbia fell to 6-4 (0-1).
