Sacramento State went on a 7-0 spurt midway through the second half as the Hornets defeated Cal State Bakersfield 79-72 at Icardo Center.
The score was tied for the ninth time at 59 when Sacramento State's game changing run began. CSUB closed to within four with just under 6 miniutes to play, but the Hornets outscored the Roadrunners 13-10 down the stretch for the final seven point margin.
Fantasia Hilliard had 18 points and 11 assists to lead five Sac State players in double figures.
Tyonna Outland scored 17 points to lead the Roadrunners. Cebrina Johnson had 16, while Amber Williams scored 14. Freshman forward Batabe Zempare grabbed 12 rebounds and scored nine points.
"We made a lot of mistakes tonight," said CSUB coach Greg McCall. "They had five players in double figures that was the difference in the game. Every time we started to get in a good rhythm, we started fouling. Offensive we struggled tonight. We need to bounce back and correct our mistakes to get ready for UC Riverside (Sunday at 4 p.m. in Icardo Center)."
