BC opens season ranked No. 4

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

Bakersfield College is ranked No. 4 in the first California Community College Football Coaches Association state poll that was released Thursday.

The Renegades went 11-2 last season and won the California Community College Athletic Association state championship with a 34-14 win over City College of San Francisco. BC beat Mt. San Antonio College in the Southern California title game to reach the state finals.

Mt. SAC, which went 11-1 last season, opens this year as the top-ranked team. Butte (10-1 last season) is second and San Francisco (10-2 last season) is third.

Mt. SAC was voted No. 1 in the Southern California top-20 and BC was second.

The Renegades open the season at Santa Ana College, which went 8-3 last season and is ranked No. 12 in the state and No. 5 in Southern California.

In May, the Southern California Football Association stripped BC of last year's state title and ruled all BC wins from the 2011 and 2012 seasons would be forfeit losses because of alleged violations of CCCAA bylaws dealing with subsidizing, inducements and special privileges for football players. BC is appealing the sanctions, which also include postseason ineligibility for football this season and two years' probation.
