Local report: CSUB ready for softball home opener
By The Bakersfield Californian
CSU Bakersfield has its softball home opener today when it hosts Cal State Fullerton in a doubleheader starting at noon.
CSUB opened its season last weekend by going 1-4 in a Las Vegas tournament. The only win was 5-4 over Weber State on Laura King's seventh-inning home run.
"After our play last weekend, our players are beginning to see what I see in them as far as talent and focus to win," first-year CSUB coach Crissy Buck said in a release. "We are shifting to make it a fight for survival to a fight to win and the players believe they can do it."
Fullerton (2-3) had a Wednesday night game against No. 8-ranked UCLA rained out. The Titans went 23-24 last season and placed third in the Big West Conference at 12-9. They did not qualify for the postseason.
CSUB has announced that attendance will be free at every home softball game this season.
After today, the Roadrunners won't return home until March 13 when they face UConn in a doubleheader.
