2012 BC football schedule features new times, foes

Earlier kick-off times for home games and a few new opponents highlight the 2012 Bakersfield College football schedule.
The Renegades (4-6 last season) play in the National Northern Conference as part of the Southern California Football Association.

Six of BC's opponents had winning records last season. Two others (Fullerton and Santa Ana) were 5-5. The only teams with losing records were Canyons (4-6) and Pasadena (3-7).
BC's opener is Sept. 1, a home game in Memorial Stadium against Santa Ana College.
Kick-off will be 6 p.m., the new game time for most of BC's home contests this season. With rare exceptions, BC home games have started at 7 p.m. in previous years.
The schedule gets rougher the following Saturday (Sept. 8), when BC travels to Mount San Antonio College, the state champion in 2009 and 2010. The Mounties reached the state title game last season but failed to three-peat when they lost 52-42 to City College of San Francisco.
Mount SAC has beaten BC four times since the 2009 season, including season-ending postseason defeats in 2009 and 2010. Mount SAC also ousted BC from the 2007 Southern California playoffs, the Renegades' only loss in a 12-1 season.
BC plays host to Fullerton College on Sept. 15, another 6 p.m. game, then begins the conference season Sept. 22 at Ventura, also at 6.
BC's first conference home game is Sept. 29 against College of the Canyons at 6 p.m. BC is then at El Camino on Oct. 6, has a bye Oct. 13, then travels to new conference member Moorpark on Oct. 20. The Renegades will host defending conference champion Cerritos on Oct. 27, with the game time to be determined.
BC athletic director Ryan Beckwith said this week he wants a 4 p.m. start for that game and also for the Nov. 10 regular season finale at Memorial Stadium against another new conference member, Pasadena.
The football association's board of directors must approve the starting time when they meet later this spring.
BC's other regular-season game is Nov. 3 at Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria.
The football association has announced bowl games will be played Nov. 17, with the Southern California title game on Nov. 24 and the state championship game on Dec. 8.
