Dodgers add Martin to roster
LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have added left-handed pitcher Jarret Martin to its 40-man roster.
Martin, 24, a 6-foot-4, 230-pound graduate of Centennial High School and former pitcher at Bakersfield College, was 6-7 with a 4.30 earned run average in 40 games last summer while splitting time with Rancho Cucamonga of the High Class A California League and Chattanooga (Tenn.) of the Southern League. He had 106 strikeouts in 96-1/3 innings.
By being on a major league team's 40-man roster, a player is protected from being chosen by another team in the annual Rule 5 Draft held each December.
