RUSTON, La. -- Oscar Sanay hit a bases-clearing triple in the eighth inning to propel the Cal State Bakersfield baseball team to a come-from-behind, 9-8 victory over Louisiana Tech on Saturday at J.C. Love Field.
Sanay hit a three-run triple down the right-field line to tie the game, 6-6. The leadoff hitter then scored on a Tyler Shryock single and Cael Brockmeyer's two-run home run to left field capped a six-run eighth inning for the Roadrunners.
The victory gives CSUB (31-17, 14-6 Western Athletic Conference) a one-game lead in the WAC standings over Texas-Arlington (25-22, 13-7 WAC), which lost 9-3 to Dallas Baptist on Saturday.
After Roadrunners starter Scott Brattvet allowed six runs over 31/3 innings, reliever Chuck Buchanan (2-2) slowed down the Bulldogs (15-32, 3-17 WAC) offense by allowing two runs and three hits over four innings, striking out three and walking none. Taylor Aikenhead pitched 12/3 scoreless innings -- including a 1-2-3 ninth inning -- for his fifth save of the season.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 6-0 lead with three runs in the first inning, one in the second and two in the fourth.
CSUB fought back with a Dylan Christensen RBI single and Brockmeyer sacrifice fly in the fourth. Chance Gusbeth hit an RBI double to cut the lead to 6-3 in the fifth.
Sanay finished 2-for-5 with two runs and three RBIs. Shryock went 3-for-5 and Brockmeyer went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
CSUB concludes its series with Louisiana Tech today at 11 a.m.
