Local report: Norwood, O'Dwyer lead BC track teams

MOORPARK -- The Bakersfield College men's a women's track and field teams finished in the top 5 at the Western State Conference finals Saturday at Moorpark College.

Michael Norwood won the 100 (10.69) and 200 (21.40) to lead the BC men to a fourth-place finish. Davis Loustalot also captured a WSC title, winning the 800 (1:53.11). Bevan Wemhoff placed third in the high jump (6 feet, 6 inches), while Deion Louden finished third in the 400 intermediate hurdles (55.74).

The Renegade women team finished fourth, paced by a strong all-around day by Natalie O'Dwyer.

O'Dwyer was second in the 400 (56.63) and helped the 4x100 and 4x400 relays finish second. Tejera Dial was third in the 800 (2:15.98) and teamed with O'Dwyer, Liz Sanchez and Mollie Fitch on the 4x400 relay (3:57.78).

Jade Gridiron was fourth in the 100 (12.22) and ran leadoff on the 4x100 relay (47.79) followed by O'Dwyer, Fitch and Nicole Lewis.

BC will now compete in next week's Southern California prelims at Antelope Valley College.

BC's Delarosa fifth at state swim meet

MONTEREY PARK -- Josh Delarosa led the Bakersfield College swimming team with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke at the California Community College Athletic Association state championship meet at East Los Angeles College.

Delarosa finished in 1 minute, 55.84 seconds. Garces graduate Mac Aukhus, who swims for Long Beach, finished seventh (1:56.98).

The BC women placed 15th out of 29 teams, while the men placed 27th of 34 teams.

BC freshman Elizabeth Hargas placed 15th (19:14.27) in the 1,650 free. Sophomore Catherine Lugo placed 14th (1:00.34) in the 100 butterfly.

CSUB splits in softball

PROVO, Utah -- Adrianna Cardona had a two-run double and Laura King had a hit and scored a run as the Cal State Bakersfield softball team defeated BYU 3-1 in the second game of a doubleheader. BYU won the first game, 8-5.

In Game 2, Kelsie Monroe recorded the win, allowing one run and four hits over 62/3 innings. CSUB scored twice in the fourth and never gave up the lead.

In Game 1, the Roadrunners took a 3-0 lead after four innings. BYU (23-25, 15-5 Pacific Coast Softball Conference), in first place in the PCSC, took the lead with four in the fifth and pulled away with four in the sixth.

CSUB junior Karissa Veiga went 2-for-4 with a double and freshman Sydney Raeber went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. CSUB has concluded its PCSC schedule, and finishes its season with a doubleheader Saturday at UCLA.

CSUB falls in water polo

BERKELEY -- No. 9-ranked San Jose State (12-11) ended the Cal State Bakersfield water polo season by defeating the Roadrunners 14-7 in the loser's bracket of the MPSF Tournament.

The Spartans led 6-3 at half before outscoring the Roadrunners 8-4 in the second half. Seven different Bakersfield players scored. Alex Bayer made 10 saves.

The Roadrunners finish the program's first season in the MPSF with a 12-24 record. All 24 CSUB losses were to teams ranked in the CWPA Division I top 20.
