Local report: BC women's cross country qualifies for state

The Bakersfield College women's cross country team qualified for the state meet with a 17th-place finish at Saturday's Southern California Championships at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa.
Moriah Millwee (20 minutes, 34 seconds), Kristen Tapia (21:18), Danielle Tildahl (21:20), Orieth Rodriguez (21:33) and Alejandra Jimenez (21:57) each ran a season-best on the 5K course for BC.
The men's team finished 27th, with Davis Loustalot (23:10), Misael Herrera (23:22), Eddie Garcia (23:28), Robbie Davalos (23:44) and Mike Shaffer (24:27) posting the fastest times for the 'Gades on the 4-mile course.
The state finals are Nov. 17 in Fresno.
JC women's soccer
Bakersfield College ran out to a 4-0 halftime lead and withstood a second-half rally by Santa Monica City College before holding on for a 4-3 victory in Western State Conference South play at BC.
Mitzi Ibarra had a goal and an assist, and Reshana Watson, D.J. Vidal and Michele Loera also scored for the Renegades (9-9, 5-7). Morgan Butterbredt and Alexis Romero each added an assist for BC.
CSUB men's swimming
Mitchell Huxhold won the 200 and 500 freestyle events as Cal State Bakersfield defeated visiting Fresno Pacific 194-94 in a swimming meet.
Huxhold won the 200 in 1 minute, 42.82 seconds and the 500 in 4:40.57 seconds, and has won five of the seven events he has entered this season.
Troy Neklason won both diving events for the Roadrunners, who won nine swimming events.
CSUB women's swimming
Five Cal State Bakersfield swimmers -- Jeanette Dove, Michaela Paige, Ali Gillespie, Nocolette Goncalves and Jordan Reed -- won two events as the Roadrunners defeated visiting Fresno Pacific 171-100. Reed swept both diving events, and CSUB won 10 of 12 swimming events.
