Hallum's big day at plate powers BC past Mission

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

SYLMAR -- Cole Hallum hit a 2-run home run and drove in five runs to rally Bakersfield College to a 12-4 victory over L.A. Mission in Friday's Western State Conference South baseball game.

The Renegades (23-8, 15-4) moved to within a half game of conference leader Glendale (21-9, 15-3). The teams play each other twice next week.

The game was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was moved to Friday when BC's team bus broke down.

Bakersfield trailed 3-1 in the fifth when Hallum tied the game with his homer, one of his three hits.

Mission (11-18, 7-10) regained the lead with a run in the fifth, but the 'Gades responded with five runs in the sixth and four in the eighth.

Every batter had a hit for Bakersfield. Erik Williams was 3-for-6, while Kyle Nixon, Blayne Ontiveros, Justin Martinez and Luc Pomales had two hits apiece.

Winston Ives (3-1) pitched 3-2/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win.

BC plays host to Mission at 1 p.m. today.
