Local report: Idaho halts Condors' 5-game win streak

BOISE, Idaho -- Bakersfield's five-game winning streak came to a halt on Friday night in a 4-3 loss to the Idaho Steelheads.

Rob Linsmayer scored 10 seconds into the game for Idaho and the Steelheads never trailed.

The teams finish a three-game set tonight.

Erik Burgdoerfer brought the Condors even 5:46 into the game on a short-handed goal but the Steelheads scored the next two goals.

Brett Robinson put Idaho up 2-1 seven minutes into the second and Charlie Doderoo made it 3-1 at 10:41.

Wes Cunningham cut Idaho's lead to 3-2 with 22 seconds left in the period but the Steelheads regained a two-goal lead 5:46 into the third on Robinson's second goal on the night.

Gary Steffes scored for Bakersfield with 9:35 remaining.

Laurent Brossoit stopped 26 shots in the the loss.

BC softball splits

VISALIA -- The BC softball team bounced back from a 21-0 rout in five innings earlier in the day by Santiago Canyon to knock off Taft at the College of the Sequoias tournament, 13-9.

Erin Huckabey led the way with a three hits -- one for extra bases -- and two RBIs. Bailey Graham, Marisol Gonzalez and Alex Avila each also had two RBIs and two hits for the Renegades against Taft.

BC erased an early deficit after spotting Taft three runs in the first inning by scoring five in the second. The Renegades added two in the fourth and put the game away in the fifth with more six runs.

Brooke Quiddam picked up the win for BC (2-5).

JC baseball

MONTEREY-- Taft College lost a pair of heartbreakers at Monterey Peninsula College 11-10 and 3-2.

The Cougars jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the second inning, but were unable to maintain the lead despite using seven different pitchers.

Game two saw Monterey jump out to a 3-0 lead in the sixth. Taft would answer back with two runs in the top of the seventh but the rally would fall short.

Taft begins conference play on tuesday at Merced.

JC track and field

Natalie O'Dwyer had a big day for host Bakersfield College at the Battle of the Regions, finishing first in the 400m (57.80); second in the 200 (25.79) and was a member of the first place 4x100 relay team (49.66).

The Renegades women finished fourth out of ten teams.

Jose Leandro won the pole vault (12-6) or the men, who finished in ninth place.
