JC roundup: BC tops COS, falls to Sierra in softball

Sarah Smith hit a two-run homer to lead an 11-hit attack as the Bakersfield College softball tean defeated College of the Sequoias 14-6 in the first game of a doubleheader split at BC.
Kaitlin Toerner had two hits, including a double, and Kara Frankhouser had a double and an RBI in Bakersfield's 5-2 loss to Sierra College of Rocklin in the finale.
In the opener against Sequoias, Julie Estep had two hits and three RBIs, and Brittney Messer was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored for the 'Gades (4-3).

Taft's Forrest Smith went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, and Chase Skinner went 3 for 5 to lead the Taft College baseball team to a 9-5 home victory over College of the Siskiyous.
Winning pitcher Corey Gilligan struck out five and walked only two in seven innings, allowing only one earned run.
The teams, each 1-3, play again at 10:30 a.m. today at Taft.
