BC's Dunn, Hollis named All-American; Chudy is top coach

Bakersfield College tight end Michael Dunn and defensive end Keylon Hollis have been named to the JC Athletic Bureau's All-America Community College Football Team, and BC's Jeff Chudy has been selected Coach of the Year.
Dunn, a sophomore from West High, led the Renegades in receptions (35) this season. He had 603 receiving yards and eight touchdowns.
Hollis, a sophomore from Texas, led the Renegades and ranked among the state leaders with 16.5 sacks.
The Renegades finished 11-2 this season and won the first California state championship in the program's history with a 35-14 win over City College of San Francisco on Dec. 8.
BC avenged its two losses with Southern California playoff wins over Mount San Antonio and Ventura colleges to reach the state championship game.
The All-American team consists of players from five different regions from throughout California.
BC is in Region IV and had four offensive players and two defensive players named to the All-Region IV team, with Chudy earning Region IV Coach of the Year.
Dunn and Hollis were also on the Region IV team. Others from BC were freshman wide receiver Marquise Johnson, sophomore quarterback Brian Burrell, sophomore running back Jalen Sykes, and sophomore cornerback Mercy Maston.
CSUB swimmers split
Cal State Bakersfield split its women's swimming competition Friday, beating Northern Colorado 167-132 and losing to No. 23-ranked San Jose State, 178-112, in a triangular meet.
CSUB freshman Michaela Paige won the 200 IM in the fourth-fastest time in school history (2:08.94) and also won the 200 free (1:51.44). She also anchored the winning 400 free relay team (3:33.24) and was second in the 500 free (5:07.74).
"Today was the Michaela Paige show," said Chris Hansen, CSUB's director of swimming. "If we can get the rest of the team to compete like Michaela, we will become even more successful."
CSUB hosts Fresno State and UNLV today at noon.

LAS VEGAS -- The Roadrunners will make the drive across the desert for the second time in as many weeks as they face No. 20 UNLV (12-2) tonight at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas at 7 p.m.
The 'Runners recently returned from Las Vegas having split the final two games on the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic. CSUB is coming off a 72-57 loss to #17 San Diego St. Wednesday night in San Diego.

The Roadrunners head to Nevada for a 4 p.m. game today.
Cal State Bakersfield, which lost 77-66 to Fresno State on Thursday, is looking to snap an 8-game losing streak.
The Wolfpack opened the all-time series by defeating the Roadrunners 85-76 last season in Bakersfield. Nevada has lost three in a row to fall to 5-7 on the year. Chanelle Brennan leads the team in scoring with a 13.8 ppg average. Danika Sharp is second on the squad in scoring (12.4).
