LOCAL REPORT: Gusbeth's 3-run HRs key Roadrunners win

GREELEY, Colo. -- Chance Gusbeth hit a three-run home runs in the seventh and eighth innings and Soloman Williams also homered twice to power Cal State Bakersfield to a 19-7 Western Athletic Conference baseball win over Northern Colorado.

The Roadrunners (19-26 overall, 11-9 WAC) finished with 21 hits, the second-most in a game in the program's six-season history.

Gusbeth and Williams became the sixth and seventh Roadrunners to hit two homers in a game. They each added a single and double to finish with 11 total bases, which broke a CSUB single-game record. Gusbeth had seven RBIs, another single-game record.

Jordie Hein stole his 16th base of the season to tie the record set by Ryan McIntyre in 2009.

Hein had four RBIs and Oscar Sanay had a triple, two singles and four runs scored.

The game ended after eight innings because of the WAC's 10-run rule. Northern Colorado fell to 1-19 in WAC play.

CSUB concludes its series with Northern Colorado at 11 a.m. today, then hosts UC Santa Barbara at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Fresno State at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

CSUB men's golf

LAS VEGAS -- Matthew Deford shot a 4-over-par 76 Saturday as Cal State Bakersfield's lowest scorer at the Western Athletic Conference men's golf championships.

CSUB's first-day leader Dylan Lym shot an 80 on Saturday. Nicholas Browning and Izzad Ibrahim shot 78s and Jim Park had an 83.

CSUB has a two-day team total of 619, 43-over-par, and is in eighth place. New Mexico State has a 15-stroke lead over second-place Idaho in the team standings.

The tournament concludes today.

Blaze beats Modesto

MODESTO -- The Bakersfield Blaze built a 6-1 lead after four innings and went on to beat the Modesto Nuts 6-4.

The Blaze scored three runs in the fourth, a rally that started with Jon Matthews' two-out double. Juan SIlva followed with an RBI single and took second on a throw to the plate. Ryan Wright singled to score Silva and Kyle Waldrop doubled to score Wright.

Seth Mejias-Brean had an RBI triple in the Blaze second and Juan Perez followed with an RBI double.

Winning pitcher Wandy Peralta (3-2) worked five innings, allowing two runs, six hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Jake Johnson tossed two scoreless innings and Kyle McMyne pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save.
