Local report: Iwamura reaches finals as 'Runners finish 6th in Reno

RENO -- Cal State Bakersfield 125-pounder Tyler Iwamura reached the finals of the Reno Tournament of Champions as the Roadrunners finished sixth Sunday night.
Iwamura dropped a 3-2 decision to Wyoming's Tyler Cox in the finals. Miguel Comparan, wrestling as CSUB's wildcard entry at 125, reached the semifinals before losing to Cox. Comparan upset the No. 2 seed, Dominic Parisi of Appalachian State in the round of 16. Comparan would finish fifth at the weight.
Bryce Hammond, who was seeded second, reached the semifinals of the 174-pound bracket before losing 4-2 to the third seed, Brandon Gutches of Southern Oregon. Hammond would place fourth after being pinned by Austin Morhead of Oregon State in the third place match.
Ian Nickell placed fifth at 133 pounds. Nickell made it to the round of 16 before dropping into the wrestlebacks.
Timmy Box finished fifth in his 141-pound weight class. Box advanced to the quarterfinals before falling into the wrestlebacks.
Adam Fierro was sixth at 157. Fierro made it to the quarterfinals before moving down to the wrestlebacks.
No. 11 Oregon State (145) won the team scoring race. Boise State (119) was second followed by Michigan State (107.5), No. 17 Wyoming (94), Southern Oregon, who is ranked second in the NAIA rankings, (87), and then the Roadrunners (84).
Women's basketball
FORT COLLINS, Colo. --Sam Martin hit a pair of free throws with five seconds remaining to give Colorado State a 56-54 victory over Cal State Bakersfield in non-conference women's basketball play.
The Rams (3-8) erased a nine-point Roadrunner halftime lead with an 18-5 run to open the second half. The teams exchanged the lead several times in the closing half. Ciarra Ford gave CSUB a 54-53 lead with 3:43 remaining
Amber Williams led CSUB with 17 points. Marilyn Naderhoff scored 11. Colorado State's Caitlin Duffy led all scorers with 22 points. Martin had 14 for Colorado State.
