    VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Former Cal State Bakersfield star Gyasi Zardes scored the first goal of his Major League Soccer career for the Los Angeles Galaxy in a 3-1 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night.

    Zardes, a MLS rookie, cut the Galaxy's deficit in half in the 86th minute as he headed in a cross from Jose Villarreal. A native of Hawthorne, Zardes scored 38 goals during a three-year career at Cal State Bakersfield (2010-12), finishing as one of the top goal scorers in the NCAA in each of the last two years when he tallied 33 goals in 37 games.
