SANTA ANA -- Bakersfield College's Nakia Page scored 18 points in just nine minutes of play, and Claesy Tarver held Mira Costa's leading scorer to just two points as the Renegades won 85-60 Thursday in the first round of the Santa Ana Tournament.

BC improved to 6-0. Tarver's defensive effort was especially significant in that Mira Costa's Brogan Griffin carried a 23.4 scoring average into the game.

Along with her defensive dominance, Tarver totaled 12 points, six rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Incredibly, she did not commit either a foul or a turnover.

"Claesy is capable of that kind of performance, she just needs a challenge," BC coach Paula Dahl said. "She's my hero for the night. She's a heck of a player.
