If you measure success solely in championships, then no one can top what Tom Ferralli has done as the Highland girls soccer coach over the past three years.
This past season Ferralli, The Californian's Girls Soccer Coach of the Year, led the Scots to a third straight Central Section Division III championship.
"Back-to-back last year was neat, but I think within any sports realm when you start putting up that word 'three-peat,' it signifies something extremely successful," Ferralli said. "I think that's the monumental point right there."
Ferralli, who believes in implementing a family type of atmosphere with his teams, has now guided Highland (20-7-2) to four section titles in six years.
"I think what allows me to be successful as a coach is we've built such a trusting relationship as student-athlete and coach," Ferralli said. "I think that allows them to believe in me and me to believe in them."
The Scots have won 76.2 percent of their games and two Southeast Yosemite League championships during the past three seasons.
This year Highland was selected for the first time ever to compete in the SoCal Regional playoffs.
"Even though we only had three captains on the roster, it felt like we had a team of captains," Ferralli said. "Everybody was in it for the right reasons. They put forth their best effort regardless of practice or game time. Regardless of whether they were starting or they were getting limited time. Everybody did their part and it just seemed so cohesive this year. There was just an aura from this group of girls that it just felt like we could get it done."
