Blaze loses fifth straight

By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN

The Lake Elsinore Storm held off a late rally and beat the Bakersfield Blaze 8-6, to sweep a 3-game series Friday at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

The Blaze has lost five straight and 10 of 11 games.

Trailing 8-3, Sebastian Elizalde got Bakersfield close with a two-run home run in the fifth and the Blaze added another in the sixth.

Elizalde finished 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Marquez Smith also homered and drove in three runs for the Blaze.

But after the first two batters reached to open the ninth, Storm closer Brandon Alger worked out of the jam for his ninth save.

Bakersfield native Brent Peterson went 1 for 4 for Bakersfield.

Former CSUB catcher Jeremy Rodriguez was hitless in four at-bats for Lake Elsinore.
