Blaze suffers 5th straight loss


MODESTO -- Jason Aquino pitched seven shutout innings Friday, allowing only four hits, as the Modesto earned a 2-1 victory over the Bakersfield Blaze in a California League baseball game at John Thurman Field.

It was the fifth straight loss for the Blaze, who dropped to 11-11 in the second half of the season.

Aquino struck out six and walked three.

Bakersfield had baserunners aboard in seven of nine innings, but went 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Blaze starter Wandy Peralta (6-7) took the loss despite a solid outing. In six innings, he allowed only three hits and two earned runs. He struck out five and walked three.

David Vidal had two of Bakersfield's seven hits.

ChrisO'Dowd and Matt Messinger had two hits apiece to lead the Nuts, who scored in the second and fifth innings
