Local report: Rain washes out college baseball, softball games

It was dry until about sunset in Bakersfield Tuesday but both Bakersfield College and Cal State Bakersfield had already postponed some scheduled events because of the threat of rain.
CSUB’s evening baseball matchup with Cal State Northridge was postponed until April 10, when it will be played at 6 p.m. at Hardt Field. The Roadrunners (2-1) are still scheduled to travel to Northridge (3-1) today for a 2 p.m. game.
BC’s afternoon baseball game at home vs. College of the Canyons was postponed until Friday at 3 p.m. The Renegades (7-2) play host to L.A. Valley at 3 p.m. Thursday.
The Ventura at BC softball game scheduled for Tuesday evening was also postponed. It will be made up March 5 at a time to be determined.
Taft College’s scheduled road baseball game in Visalia against College of the Sequoias was also postponed and will be made up Friday at 2 p.m. Taft (3-6-1) will play COS three straight days, a home game Thursday and road games Friday and Saturday.
Local product Tittl takes two seconds in SCIAC diving
University of La Verne diver Jacob Tittl, a 2010 Liberty High graduate and former member of the Kern River Divers, placed second in the 1- and 3-meter competitions in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships in La Mirada
Tittl scored 381.45 points in the 1-meter competition, and 387.30 in the 3-meter.
Centennial grads off to good start to baseball season
Two former Centennial High left-handers had solid season debuts, and another got his first college hit.
Grant Watson (1-0), the No. 3 starter at UCLA, pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out eight in the Bruins’ 14-1 victory Sunday over Minnesota.
The sophomore did not walk a batter and improved his career record at UCLA to 10-2.
Tyler Painton, a sophomore at Oregon State, did not allow a run in six innings of relief Monday in the Beavers’ 5-4 win over UC Riverside.
The former Bakersfield College standout allowed one hit, walked two and had four strike outs.
Another former Golden Hawk, Brody Russell, made his first collegiate start Sunday at Fresno State.
The freshman opened the game at second base, finishing 1-for-3 in the Bulldogs’ 11-3 loss to UC Santa Barbara.
Bakersfield Christian grad A.J. Ramirez had a pinch single for USC in a 9-4 loss at CSUB on Saturday.
