BC kicker Gallington signs with N. Illinois
By THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN
Josh Gallington, who has led the Bakersfield College football team in scoring both of his seasons with the Renegades, has signed a letter of intent with Northern Illinois University.
The Bakersfield Christian graduate had an outstanding place-kicking career at BC. His 83 points last fall included 12-of-14 field goals and all 47 of his extra point attempts.
He had 101 points as a freshman in 2009, hitting 17-of-20 field goals and 50-of-52 PATs.
Big inning paces BC
Bakersfield College sent 11 men to the plate during a seven-run third inning Saturday, and the Renegades rolled to a 10-2 win over San Diego Mesa College at Gerry Collis Field.
BC (6-4) had five hits, received two walks and Mesa contributed an error in the inning. The key hit was Ben Straka's two-run double.
Straka, David Pennington and Riley Showers had two hits apiece for the Renegades. Taylor Aikenhead scattered six hits to get the pitching win and Philip Valos tossed three scoreless innings for his second save.
BC plays host to Cypress College Monday at 1 p.m., a game rescheduled from Friday night.
Taft tops Monterey
TAFT -- Taft College used a four-run fifth inning to rally from behind and beat previously unbeaten Monterey Peninsula 7-3.
The Cougars (7-3) also had a win this season over Feather River, a preseason No. 1-ranked team in California by perfectgame.org. Monterey Peninsula is 7-1.
A two-run single by Perry Rogan was the key hit in Taft's big inning. Rogan, an East High graduate, went 2-for-4. Clem Ferrer and Austin Christiansen also had two hits each for Taft and Braden Keathley scored twice.
Taylor McWhirter (1-0) pitched 31/3 scoreless innings of relief to get the win.
BC falls in finale
GLENDALE -- Bakersfield College ended its men's basketball season with a 76-57 loss at Glendale College.
BC was missing three starters, two with injuries and one suspended. Another starter was ill, coach Rich Hughes said, adding that only seven players suited up.
Glendale led by 10 with about seven minutes to play, then pulled away by hitting numerous free throws.
Cooper Damron scored a season-high 24 points and Bart Dandridge added 15.
BC finishes 10-17 overall and 4-8 in Western State Conference play. It's the first losing season and first time the Renegades haven't reached the playoffs in coach Hughes' six years with the program.
