Local report: CSUB wrestlers slip past Cal Baptist

RIVERSIDE -- Cal State Bakersfield's Bryce Hammond recorded a technical fall in the final match of the night to break a tie and give the Roadrunners a 20-15 dual meet wrestling win over Cal Baptist Thursday night.

CSUB also had decision wins by Jose Mendoza at 133 pounds, Ian Nickell (141), Dalton Kelley (149, David Mesa (165) and Sean Pollock (184).

Hammond took a 15-point lead to earn the technical fall in only 2:59. CSUB is 6-6 in duals.

Taft baseball wins

TAFT -- Travis Tessandori went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and hit Taft College's first home run of the season as the Cougars beat College of the Siskiyous 10-2 in a game delayed by rain for 1 hour, 20 minutes in the fifth inning.

Loren Cutolo went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Dayton Kurian was 2-for-5 with two runs for Taft (3-1). Winning pitcher Brandon Van Stone allowed four hits, two runs (one earned), and three walks in seven innings with five strikeouts.

BC games postponed

Thurday's scheduled baseball game between Bakersfield College and Hartnell to be played at College of the Sequoias in Visalia and BC's home softball game vs. Santa Barbara were postponed because of inclement weather.
