State voters approve Prop. 30, reject Prop. 32

California voters have approved Proposition 30, Gov. Jerry Brown's proposal to balance the budget by temporarily raising sales and income taxes.
With 98.5 percent of precincts reporting as of 6:19 a.m., the initiative led with 53.9 percent of votes cast.
Meanwhile, Proposition 32 -- another hotly contested initiative that would have banned political contributions by payroll deduction -- failed with 56.2 percent of votes going against the measure.
