Kings County Supervisor Richard Valle, a Democrat, has decided not to run for the 14th Senate District seat, according to The Hanford Sentinel.

The paper said his decision follows word that Fresno Unified School District Trustee Luis Chavez has locked up support from delegates to the California Democratic Party state convention next month.

Party backing and funding would be a huge advantage for Chavez, who is going up against Republican Andy Vidak.

The 14th District has roughly the same borders as the 16th District, which Vidak represents now after winning a special election last year over Democrat Leticia Perez, a Kern County supervisor. Redistricting changed the district number for the area Vidak represents.

The deadline to file to run for the state senate seat is March 7, The Sentinel said.
