The two candidates facing off in the 14th Senate District race will speak at a forum 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 27 at the Richard Prado East Bakersfield Senior Center.
The 14th District race will match up state Sen. Andy Vidak, R-Hanford, against Democratic Fresno Unified School District Trustee Luis Chavez.
The race, in a Democratic-leaning district with strong Latino registration, will be closely watched.
That is especially true following Vidak's dramatic defeat of Kern County Supervisor Leticia Perez in a 2013 special election for the 16th Senate District seat.
The 14th District is -- in large part -- the same territory as the 16th District was. It was redrawn and retitled as part of the 2011 redistricting of state and congressional political territory.
Vidak's office, meanwhile, will hold office hours throughout the district to talk to constituents about issues of concern. In Kern County they will be:
* 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. March 17, Wasco City Hall, 746 8th St. in Wasco
* 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 22, Cal State Bakersfield's Icardo Center, 9001 Stockdale Highway, Bakersfield
* 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. March 24, Lowell Place, 500 R St., Bakersfield
A Vidak staff member will be there to answer questions and assist constituents with state-related issues. Constituents can drop in or make an appointment by calling Daniel Medina at 559-585-7161.
