Young Republicans endorse Maxwell, Smith for city council

The Kern County Young Republicans have endorsed Terry Maxwell and Bob Smith for Bakersfield City Council.
Maxwell, a local restaurant owner, is running for the Ward 2 seat, representing much of downtown Bakersfield. Also in that race are Bakersfield Planning Commissioner Elliott Kirschenmann and David Mensch, who teaches people with disabilities to use assistive technology.
"Terry has the integrity that we as Young Republicans admire, and (we are) impressed with his straightforward answers to questions facing the 2nd Ward and the City of Bakersfield as a whole," said Bryan Williams, chairman of the group. "As a business owner, Terry will be a great advocate for both the constituents of the 2nd Ward and help Bakersfield be a great place to do business."
Smith is the only candidate actively campaigning for the Ward 4 seat currently held by David Couch. He is the founder of the organization Bike Bakersfield and owns a civil engineering firm.
"Bob has shown that he has the conservative credential of fiscal responsibility and will be an effective advocate for Republican ideals on the Bakersfield City Council," Williams said.
To earn the endorsement of the Kern County Young Republicans, a candidate must be a registered Republican and receive two-thirds of votes of paid members of the organization.
The council races are non-partisan, but Kirschenmann also is a Republican.
