We are measured by how we treat others in need

By The Bakersfield Californian

Is America truly going to turn its back on desperate children? Many Americans seem very willing to. Sen. John McCain advocates returning the children en masse -- as if it's simply a matter of chartering airliners -- and, in wholesale fashion, pushing them out the airplane door in some city south of our border. That's making the children someone's else's problem, just not ours.

Maybe it's worth remembering the lessons of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) and that of a traveling stranger (Leviticus 19:33-34). It's pretty clear our own destiny is measured by how we address others. And, as these parables illustrate, the way we treat others in need is a measure of dedication to Christ.
