Taxing services wasteful folly

By The Bakersfield Californian

Every single program that has ever been invented by any government entity is abused. Every single promise of future pensions is money that has not been realized. Every single project that the people vote on will cost at least 10 times more than projected, and abuse will occur there as well.

With few exceptions, bills that pass into law will benefit a small percentage of the population and pass the payments onto everyone else. Politicians will continue to promote that which furthers their careers, not what is best for all. Education continues to pretend that all students are going to college.

So, why not tax and waste the last tree standing in the forest? Taxing services will not fix anything, but I can assure you it will be wasted with the same enthusiasm. ("State should extend sales tax to services," San Jose Mercury News, Other Views, Aug. 13.)
