Voice concerns now about HECA project
By The Bakersfield Californian
Those of us planning to remain in Kern County over the next decade or so really need to complain about the proposed hydrogen energy facility near Taft. Of all things, the project involves millions of tons of coal to be shipped into Kern County from New Mexico, first by diesel train, then by diesel trucks. There is no sensible justification in the 21st century for increasing our air pollution when we already know that our air quality remains about the worst in the nation.
In addition, the facility will use massive amounts of water already being depleted by farming and the oil industry in the area. I attended the recent hearing in Tupman. Almost no one in the area approves of this ill-conceived plan that further pollutes our air, threatens our water supply and wastes millions in taxpayer dollars in old, dirty technology.
